Yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, silver. The options are endless, how do you choose the best tone for you? While some people often mix and match their metal tones in their jewellery box, most people love to stick with just one. If that’s you, and you’re unsure on how to choose, take a look at some of our tips on choosing the best tone for you.
Skin Tone
It’s so hard trying to determine whether you’re a warm or cold skin tone, our tip is to look at your veins! If you turn over your hand and take a look at the veins in your inner wrist, you can use the vein colour to determine your tone. If your veins are noticeably blue, then it’s safe to assume that you have a cool skin tone. When your veins are more of a green-ish hue, you’re more likely a warm tone.
When you have a good idea on your skin tone, you can use this to help decide on your perfect metal colour. Cooler tones work best with cooler toned metals, like white golds, silver and platinum. Whereas warmer skin tones best suit yellow golds, copper, brass and often rose gold.
Gem Choices
Do you have a certain gem that you cannot part with? Maybe you’re partial to your birthstone, or you’ve just always worn sapphire pieces. No matter the case, some gemstones are best suited to particular metal colours. Warmer gemstones such as garnet and topaz are better suited to yellow golds. However, lighter stones such as aquamarine and peridot are better suited to silvers and white gold.
Outfit Choices
Do you gravitate towards a certain colour or certain tone in all your outfits? If this is the case then you might want to base your jewellery choices on your wardrobe. Much like skin tones, certain hues are best suited to particular metal colours. Much like gems, warm colours are best suited to golds and copper tones, and cooler outfit colours go best with silvers and white golds. However, if you wish to create contrast between your outfit and jewellery, you can switch these around to add dimension to your looks.
