How to Keep Your Jewellery Safe in Wet Weather

Rainy days and humid climates can pose a threat to your beloved jewellery. Whether you’re caught in an unexpected downpour or navigating through a particularly damp season, keeping your jewellery safe is essential to preserve its beauty and longevity. Here are some off our favourite tips to keep your jewellery safe from the wet weather.

Remove Jewellery Before Exposure

The simplest way to protect your jewellery is to remove it before exposing it to wet conditions. Water can damage delicate settings and cause metals to tarnish or corrode. If you know you'll be in the rain or near water, it’s best to leave your jewellery at home.

Store Properly When Not in Use

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, ensure it’s stored in a dry, safe place. Use anti-tarnish pouches or cloths for silver and other metals prone to tarnishing. For added protection, consider using a jewellery box with a waterproof lining. Avoid storing your jewellery in places with high humidity, like the bathroom!

Clean and Dry Your Jewellery Immediately

If your jewellery does get wet, rinse it with clean, lukewarm water as soon as possible to remove any contaminants. Pat it dry with a soft cloth and ensure it’s completely dry before storing it away. Avoid using heat sources like hairdryers to speed up the drying process, as this can cause damage.

Avoid Wearing Jewellery in Water

This might seem obvious, but it’s easy to forget! Avoid wearing your jewellery while swimming, showering, or washing dishes. Chlorine in pools and soap can damage and dull your pieces over time.

Use Protective Coatings

For extra precaution, consider using protective coatings designed for jewellery. These can create a barrier against moisture and help maintain the lustre of your pieces. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for application and removal.
